Coverage to consider

Select a topic for details and preparation notes.

On the road

Personal Auto

Review liability, collision, comprehensive, and uninsured or underinsured motorist options for your vehicles and drivers.

Key review points

  • Match limits and deductibles to your needs
  • Tell us about delivery, rideshare, or business use
  • Prepare vehicle and driver details, annual mileage, garaging ZIP and any changes in household drivers.
At home

Homeowners

Discuss protection for your house, belongings, personal liability, and added living costs after a covered loss.

Key review points

  • Review rebuilding cost and roof coverage
  • Check wind deductibles and water exclusions
  • Bring the rebuilding estimate, roof age, recent renovations and any lender requirements; market value is not a rebuilding estimate.
Your own space

Renters

Your landlord’s policy generally does not insure your belongings. Explore protection for your possessions, personal liability, and covered temporary living costs.

Key review points

  • Review a home inventory
  • Compare replacement cost and actual cash value
  • Estimate the replacement cost of your belongings and review liability requirements in your lease.
At home

Condo & Co-op

Coordinate coverage for your unit, improvements, belongings, and liability with the association’s master policy.

Key review points

  • Review the association’s insurance responsibilities
  • Ask about loss assessment coverage
  • Bring the master-policy summary and association documents to clarify which parts of the unit you must insure.
Property you rent out

Landlord & Rental Property

Discuss dwelling, premises liability, and loss of rental income options for eligible rental properties.

Key review points

  • Tell us who occupies the property
  • Disclose short-term rentals, vacancies, and business ownership
  • Provide unit count, lease type, occupancy, renovations and any periods the property will be vacant.
Extra liability protection

Personal Umbrella

Explore an additional layer of liability protection above qualifying home, auto, and other underlying policies.

Key review points

  • Check required underlying limits
  • Review household drivers and property exposures
  • List all properties, drivers, vehicles and recreational exposures so the underlying policies can be reviewed together.
A separate coverage review

Flood

Standard homeowners and renters policies generally exclude flood. Ask about separate flood insurance options for eligible properties and contents.

Key review points

  • Compare building and contents protection
  • Review waiting periods and program requirements
  • Identify the building and contents you need protected and confirm the actual effective date before relying on coverage.
On the road

Motorcycle

Discuss liability and physical damage options for your bike, with equipment and accessory coverage where available.

Key review points

  • Riding, storage, and passenger needs
  • Accessories and custom equipment
  • Provide the year, make, model, engine size, riders and approximate value of custom accessories.
Your time away

RV & Travel Trailer

Review coverage for a motorhome, camper, or travel trailer based on how you travel, store it, and use it.

Key review points

  • Seasonal and full-time use need different reviews
  • Ask about belongings and vacation liability
  • Explain whether the vehicle is used for occasional trips, seasonal stays, full-time living or rental to others.
On the water

Boat & Watercraft

Explore hull, equipment, and liability protection for eligible boats and personal watercraft.

Key review points

  • Navigation area and storage details
  • Towing and trailer options where available
  • Provide hull value, horsepower, navigation area, storage arrangements and any lender requirements.
Something special

Classic & Collector Auto

Ask about specialty coverage for an eligible collector vehicle, including agreed-value options.

Key review points

  • Mileage, storage, and use restrictions matter
  • Document modifications and vehicle value
  • Describe storage, use, modifications and supporting valuation documents; eligibility is not based on age alone.
The things you treasure

Jewelry & Valuables

Standard policies may limit coverage for jewelry, art, and collectibles. Review scheduled coverage or a separate personal articles policy.

Key review points

  • Item descriptions, values, and appraisals
  • Review covered causes of loss and deductibles
  • Identify each high-value item and ask whether scheduling changes theft limits, deductibles or covered causes of loss.

Planning your review

A second home. A special event. A less usual question.

Also ask about manufactured or mobile homes, seasonal and vacant homes, windstorm or earthquake coverage, recreational vehicles such as ATVs and golf carts, personal event liability, and identity-fraud expense coverage. These need an individual eligibility and market review; not every product is available in every state.

Good questions Before you choose

A few things worth asking.

Can I review home and auto together?

Yes. Reviewing policies together can help align liability limits, deductibles, and renewal dates. Multi-policy discounts may be available, but price and eligibility vary by insurer.

Does homeowners insurance cover every kind of water damage?

No. Flood, sewer backup, and a sudden plumbing leak are different exposures. Check the policy’s exclusions and ask which separate policies or endorsements may be appropriate.

Can personal coverage protect my business too?

Business activities may be excluded or limited under personal policies. Tell us about a home business, rental activity, delivery work, or vehicles used for work so we can review the appropriate personal and commercial options.
